Discovering the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican

Dedicated to Mary’s Assumption, celebrated on 15 August, the Sistine Chapel is one of the most famous places of the Vatican and the heart of many touristic tours. Built between 1475 and 1481 under the pontificate of Pope Sixtus IV della Rovere, from which it takes its name, it is well-known worldwide for its extraordinary artworks that adorn its walls and ceiling and for being the place where the Papal Conclave meets for the election of the next Supreme Pontiff

Paintings and Frescoes of the Sistine Chapel

Restored between 1477 and 1480, the Sistine Chapel offers a wide collection of frescoes such as the Stories of Moses, the Stories of Jesus and the portraits of the Pontiffs.
One of the masterpieces of this very important Catholic place is the Creation fresco, by Michelangelo Buonarroti, who took part in the modifications of the chapel ceiling.
