Having a child who suffers, seeing a sick child, afflicted with a bad disease is something really very strong, which unfortunately many people all over the world experience. Suffering can be due to incurable diseases, great evils, misfortunes, and injuries that unfortunately we cannot always control. Physical suffering is inherent in our being animals and however much we try to take care of our body, we are not always able to avoid serious illnesses and physical problems. Aside from taking care of our bodies, the only thing we can do is pray and dedicate our thoughts to God and the patron saints of the sick. But when it comes to a child whose life has been cruel ... who should we turn to?
St. Clare of Assisi is the answer, the very first follower of St. Francis.
Find out more about Saint Clare and recite the prayer at the bottom of the article.
Who is Saint Clare of Assisi?
Clare of Assisi was born at the end of the 12th century in Assisi (Italy) and she is known throughout the world for having been not only the first follower and collaborator of St. Francis, but also the founder of the order of the Poor Clares. Proclaimed a saint only in 1958 by Pope Pius XII, she is today considered the patron saint of television and telecommunications, as well as of sick and suffering children and her feast day is on 11 August. This order has always had a contemplative character, but has always been dedicated to activities in the didactic and social fields. For this reason, Saint Clare is considered the patroness of sick children. The order of the Poor Clares is today widely diffused both in Europe and in America.
A prayer to St. Clare for sick children
If you too want to dedicate a prayer to St. Clare, to ask her for the protection of a child who is suffering from a serious illness, you can say the prayer below.
God has given you the power of working miracles continually,
and the favor of answering the prayers of those
who invoke your assistance in misfortune, anxiety, distress and illness;
obtain for us from Jesus, through Mary, His Blessed Mother,
what we beg of you so fervently and hopefully,
if it be for the greater honor and glory of God and for the good of our souls.
May they get your blessing and divine protection everyday of their life,
may their suffering stop.
